Privacy Policy
Effective: July 5, 2026. Applies to the Sparkie iPad app and sparkie.kids.
The short version
Sparkie is built for children, so we hold ourselves to the strictest reading of children's privacy law (COPPA). We collect the minimum needed to run the service, we never store your child's voice, we show no ads, we use no third-party trackers, and we never sell data.
Who we are
Sparkie is an AI-powered learning app for children ages 3–12. The account holder is always a parent or legal guardian. Contact: support@sparkie.kids.
What we collect
- Parent account: email address and password (managed by our database provider, Supabase; we never see your password).
- Child profile: first name (or nickname), age, and a chosen avatar. We never ask for a child's full name, birthdate, address, or photo.
- Learning activity: worksheet answers and scores, level progress, and time-on-task — used to adapt difficulty and show you progress.
- Conversation transcripts: the text of what your child and Sparkie said. Audio is transcribed in real time and the recording is immediately discarded — we never store your child's voice.
- Memory entries: short notes Sparkie keeps (like a favorite dinosaur) to personalize conversations. You can view and delete each one in the parent dashboard.
What we never collect
Voice recordings. Photos or videos of your child. Location. Contacts. Advertising identifiers. Behavioral tracking of any kind.
How AI processing works
To power Sparkie's features, conversation text and worksheet content are processed by AI providers under contract with us: OpenAI (speech-to-text and content generation), Anthropic (Sparkie's conversation and parent summaries), and Cartesia (Sparkie's voice output). These providers process data to provide the service to us and are not permitted to use it to train their models per our API agreements. Video suggestions in Discover use the YouTube Data API and are always parent-approved before a child sees them.
Where data lives
All data is stored with Supabase (PostgreSQL) with per-family access controls — one family can never see another family's data.
Safety alerts
If a conversation suggests your child may be at risk, Sparkie flags it and notifies you. These alerts exist to protect children and are available on every plan.
Your rights as a parent
- Review: see everything Sparkie stores in the parent dashboard.
- Delete: remove individual memories, a child profile, or your entire account and all its data from inside the app (Settings → Privacy & Data).
- Ask: email support@sparkie.kids and we'll help within a reasonable time.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
The account is created and controlled by the parent; the parent's account constitutes consent for their own child's use. We collect no more information from children than is reasonably necessary to provide the service.
Changes
We'll post any changes here and update the effective date. Material changes affecting children's data will be emailed to account holders.
